2021.12.07 00:09 yeah_no_obviously My new company is so much better, but I have some bad habits to break

My old company ran product verrry top-down. PMs never had to do much persuasion or negotiation because everything was micro-managed by leadership and we mostly focused on execution and delivery. “Tough” personality? Didn’t agree with Product or Tech bosses? Trust you would be fired somehow. We weren’t even encouraged to talk to stakeholders (directors did it themselves, or intercepted our meetings and spoke over us, then told us what to do). Many of us fought against this, and tried to get more face time with our users but we were constantly undermined. I left after 2 years as a PM.
Now I’m at a new company, which I love so far, but am feeling like a fish out of water. I got what I wanted (autonomy) but I’m realizing I’ve never really done this before, this way. I get what has to happen conceptually and technically but I’m feeling like an imposter because I have never seen anyone model healthy product leadership and I can’t tell if I’m doing well since I’m still pretty new. Reading a book is one thing but in practice, it’s tough, and I’m having difficulty with self doubt. I’ve also brought a lot of the same fear-based, defensive mindsets to my new job and am trying to stop and seem more confident than I actually feel. When I asked to shadow some meetings where new processes were being introduced (just to see another PM in action), I think my new boss thought it was weird. Hoping I can fake it til I make it.
What habits or skills have you had to break, change or add when switching jobs? Or teams?

2021.12.07 00:09 economicsdesign Risk of Stable coin & Venezuela’s Petro coin

When the word "stable coin" is used, it is referring to stable, relative to the underlying pegged asset. If we have to be technical, it is more of a "pegged coin" than a stable one.
Analysis 1: Stable coin is useful. But it could reduce the demand of actual currency and create serious devaluation. ✔️ Stable coins are good. Let’s get the straight.
❌ But the risk is that stable coins become a threat to the existing currency and its monetary policy.
Case in point: Venezuela’s Bolivar 🇻🇪

  1. Venezuela experienced hyperinflation in its currency. (Meaning if 1 banana costs 1 Bolivar, the same banana costs 3 Bolivar tomorrow. Your Bolivar cash is the same but everything suddenly becomes more expensive.)
  2. This means that Bolivar is less valuable.
  3. People move to an alternative; cryptocurrencies.
  4. More people use cryptocurrencies and more businesses accept currencies.
  5. This means less demand for Bolivar. (Actual currency)
  6. My fear is this risk: as less people demand Bolivar, it becomes even less valuable (see 3). So in the end, the currency might devalue to the extent where it is no longer valuable and the system is gone.
Funny thing: money only works when we believe in it. It’s literally just pieces of paper. When we stop believing in Bolivar, Bolivar will also cease to exist.
If that can happen in Venezuela, how about a large scale, say the US economy? One day, you wake up and realise the green bag is worth nothing.
Analysis 2: Strange math aside, Petro is centralised by few organisations. ✔️ Venezuela has oil. It’s how they have been sustaining themselves.
❌ But this can be easily manipulated.
My 4 questions:
  1. Accepted Petro rate is dependent on oil prices, determined by OPEC. (Arguably centralised)
  2. How is Petro/Bolivar determined? It is defined by operations authorised by the government. (Centralised)
  3. Oil prices defines the Accepted Petro/Bolivar rate in an ambitious manner. (Not transparent. Is opaque)
  4. Government controls the faction of Dv (discount rate in terms of oil prices). (Opaque and centralised)
Some ways to manipulate Accepted Petro:
  1. Collude with OPEC (i.e. lobbying) to adjust the supply of oil, hence the price of oil. Or invest in alternative energy and reduce demand in oil, hence the price.
  2. Be the government in Venezuela. Accept or reject “volume of operations of exchange house authorised by the gov” and affect the Petro/Bolivar rate.
  3. Be the government and change the discount rate (Dv). E.g. if citizens are paying taxes in Petro, have a low discount rate (Dv) so the government gets a higher Petro than with discount. And when gov has to spend a lot, increase the Dv so less Petro is needed to pay for the expense.
Stable coin is good. In this case of #Petro, maybe not. Too opaque and centralised. If the government has a reputation of being honest and non-corrupt, maybe it might possibly probably perhaps work. But that is not the case.

2021.12.07 00:09 luriixa my little brother

alright so september 2019, my stepfather and my brother (his son) left to go to my stepfather’s homeland but sadly, only my little brother came back. i’m not going into detail but the whole thing left my little brother scarred who was only 6 at the time.
fast forward to now, we live in a stable household with just my mother, my older brother (same mother and father), my little brother (same mother), and i. my little brother is now 8 and still suffers from what happened on that trip
i genuinely feel sorry for him
my mom has started picking up night shifts with the goal of moving out of nyc by next summer. due to this, my little brother has been sleeping in my room. up until now, he’s always slept in my mother’s room in the bed with her.
as of now, i have to take him to school so my mom can get sleep after working through the night. he knows i have to get him to school by a certain time in order for my myself to get the school on time. i have to commute myself as it’s nyc and that’s basically the norm here. he’ll purposely make my mornings hell because he knows he won’t get in trouble for it because my mom will chalk it up as a “he’s still adjusting”.
i’m frustrated because while i know he needs to be close with her for a genuine reason, i’m still upset about it.
as the youngest child, he already got away with so much but now he can play the dead daddy card and get away with so much more
he knows that he can do this and uses it to get out of so many situations. whenever he doesn’t do it, it gets pulled onto me. whatever he lies his way out of, i have to cover for it because he’s mommy’s little baby that lost his dad
i don’t want to be mad at him but how the hell else am i supposed to feel. my mom babying him is making my life hell and whenever i try to confront her about it she says i’m selfish and an overall bad person for accusing my little brother of this stuff
what the hell do i do? i can’t keep living like this where he can control everything in the house because of something that affected all of us, not just jinx
yeah my stepfather wasn’t my biological father but my real father is a piece of shit and my stepfather was my real father in my eyes. my little brother isn’t the only person suffering from his death
i’m so over this. what do i do?

2021.12.07 00:09 AstraVixen What platforms are creators having the most success with right now?

I have been working on launching onto several fansites in the near future. I started trying to learn about online sw several months ago, and got serious during the infamous OF porn ban scandal, so I naturally had been planning to primarily focus on fansly, but haven't wanted to put "all the eggs in one basket" so to speak. I have wanted to primarily use fansly because they seem to value their creators the most, but I'm worried that not enough people will want to use fansly to interact with me. It seems like despite OF being frustrating to work with, they still are where most potential fans would rather go. I have also been wanting to use ManyVids for their store feature because I want to be able to sell worn items and they seem to be the only platform that allows that as well as has a built in payment processor to avoid getting shut down by PayPal, cashapp, or venmo.
For creators who use multiple platforms, which ones are the most profitable? And do you post the same content everywhere so that your fans can just use whichever site they are most comfortable on? Or do you post somewhat different content on different platforms so you can get money from the same fans on multiple sites? How do you juggle your platforms?
If you do sell your worn items through a site that doesn't really allow it, how do you do so without getting in trouble?

2021.12.07 00:09 Stradarts What kind of error is this?

Hi!
I have just pulled this Tapu Bulu 016 Holo and I noticed printing lines all around the card.
Here are some pictures of the card.
Is this an error? What kind of error is that?
Does it add any value to the card or are those just some printing defects due to poor QA?
Thanks!
